Reports to:  Staff Attorney / Program Manager

Location: Foothill College

Job Summary

The Immigration Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA) is seeking a part-time outreach associate to inform students, staff and faculty at Foothill College about how to access free legal immigration services.  Through a special project supported by the Foundation for California Community Colleges and the California Department of Social Services, IIBA has partnered with Foothill College to provide free immigration legal services, prioritizing services to undocumented students.  The outreach associate will identify outreach opportunities on campus, either in person or online, to explain available services and register students for legal consultations and webinars.  Training will be provided.  The outreach associate will help develop and deliver outreach presentations in person and online in coordination with IIBA’s Program Manager and Staff Attorney.  This position supports IIBA’s mission by providing quality immigration-specific outreach services under attorney supervision, to ensure that Foothill College students can successfully access immigration legal services. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Outreach: Identify and develop opportunities to engage immigrant students, staff and faculty in groups and individually at Foothill College.  This may include in person and online contact, speaking with student groups, counselors or other allies. Develop strategies to reach students in ESL classes, campus organizations, student orientations, and other campus events.
  • Presentations: Conduct presentations to students, staff and faculty at Foothill College and other California Community Colleges on relevant immigration, citizenship and civic engagement topics.  Develop presentation content and written materials in collaboration with IIBA’s legal team.
  • Collaborate:  Work closely with Foothill College’s Family Engagement Institute and IIBA’s Program Manager, Staff Attorney and Paralegal to promote legal services, workshops, and events. Work with IIBA’s Communications Manager to support outreach strategies via social media.
  • Connect: Connect immigrant students with legal services by registering the students for legal appointments and webinars.
  • Community Leadership:  Contribute to IIBA’s visibility and active role on campus.  Represent IIBA at campus events as needed.
  • All other duties: Perform all other duties as needed and/or as directed by the supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

•           Excellent communication skills, including public speaking.

•           Knowledge of Foothill College preferred.

•           Strong organizational skills.

•           Ability to act independently and exercise sound judgment.

•           Commitment to serve immigrants and sensitivity to the needs of culturally diverse immigrant communities.   

•           Ability to travel to community college campuses on a regular weekly basis.  Available for evening and weekend services as needed.

•           Proficiency in a Windows/PC environment.


Education:  Community College student preferred.

Work Experience:  Previous paid or volunteer experience in community outreach efforts preferred.

Language:  Ability to communicate effectively in English and any other language preferred.
