IIBA Napa Client: Jorge

For thirty years, Jorge has been a member of the Napa Community, working in the wine industry as a field worker and tractor driver.  He and his wife of 30 years met at church in St. Helena, where Jorge sang in the choir. He and his wife raised their four children in Napa.

On Friday, January 27th, 2017,  Jorge was threatened that his entire life would be ripped away from him.

Jorge was on a plane, returning to St. Helena from a trip to see family in Mexico, when the Trump Administration announced the Travel Ban. In the confusion of the Executive Order, Jorge’s green card was confiscated at the airport when he arrived back in the U.S., and he was placed into deportation proceedings.

Jorge and his wife sought help at their local church, St. Helena Catholic Church, where Father John Brenkle referred the family to Congressman Mike Thompson’s Office, who then referred Jorge to the Immigration Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA).

IIBA’s Deportation Defense Team won Jorge’s case, keeping Jorge united with his family. IIBA’s Legal Team then helped Jorge apply for naturalization and prepare for his citizenship interview. For decades, Jorge had dreamed of becoming a US Citizen. Today, that dream is a reality.
