The Institute’s educational initiatives continued to grow with the development of the English-in-Action Program, which provided one-on-one tutorial sessions for clients wishing to improve their English. Additionally, the San Francisco Community College District arranged with the Institute to hold ESL classes in the International Institute building, and the Filipino Newcomer Service Center supported Filipino immigrants, who were largely professional people, in gaining the education and re-licensing they would need to establish in this country the occupational status they had earned in their country of origin.
