The Institute developed advocacy recommendations and a city-wide project that would assist 10,000 legal residents in completing the citizenship process. With funding from the San Francisco Foundation, granted to the Foundation by George Soros’s Open Society Institute, the Institute served as a full-service naturalization hub, working with three other hub agencies in the project, as well as 15 partner agencies located throughout San Francisco. With the help of the Peninsula Community Foundation, funded by private foundations and the Open Society Institute, the Institute’s San Mateo program provided comprehensive citizenship services in collaboration with other San Mateo agencies.
